All of the talk of homemade products made me think of this recipe for homemade dog food. It is loosely based on a recipe I saw in Prevention magazine many years ago: MEASUREMENTS ARE APPROXIMATE!! 1 lb. raw chicken livers fresh or dried garlic 2 T cooking oil 2 cups old fashioned oats 2 - 3 eggs Place chicken livers, with broth, in 3 qt. saucepan. Cover with about 2 inches of water. Add garlic and oil. Cover and simmer for about 1 hour, or until livers are tender. Break up livers into small pieces, and bring mixture to a boil You should have about 3 cups of liquid. If you don't, add more water. Break eggs into boiling mixture, and stir, so that they break up. Add oats, and cook for about 1/2 hour more. Add more liquid as needed. Cool and serve. I have to warn you, this will stink up your kitchen, but your dogs will love you! It is the only thing I know that will tempt the appetite of a sickly dog. In fact, our neighbor's prize beagle had fallen ill, and had not eaten for several days. They thought they might lose him. The vet did not know what was wrong. I made up a batch of this dog food, and took it over to them. Buck ate a good portion of it, and the next day he was up and feeling much better. A couple of days later, and he was out running in the fields again. And I'm not pulling your tail! Bon Appetite! Janet
